Andi McClatchey, PhD is the Poitras Family Professor of Oncology at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, and in 2021 the Director of Academic Affairs and Education within the MGH Krantz Family Center for Cancer Research. Dr. McClatchey received her PhD in Genetics from Harvard Medical School and completed postdoctoral training in the laboratory of Tyler Jacks at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology before joining the faculty at MGH and Harvard Medical School. In addition to running a laboratory research program, Dr. McClatchey is co-leader of the Landry Cancer Biology Consortium for graduate students at Harvard Medical School and developed and leads the SUCCrEED program for trainees within the MGH Krantz Family Center for Cancer Research.
Dr. McClatchey’s research is dedicated to understanding how cells organize their outer cortex, and how that organization drives morphogenesis and tumorigenesis. She has been particularly dedicated to understanding the molecular functions of the neurofibromatosis type 2 (NF2) tumor suppressor Merlin, and closely related membrane:cytoskeleton linking ERM proteins (Ezrin, Radixin and Moesin). Her studies and Merlin/ERMs in morphogenesis and tumorigenesis of the peripheral nervous system and liver have uncovered basic design principles of cell surface organization that are used by normal cells and exploited by tumor cells. She actively engages in translating these fundamental scientific discoveries toward improving the care of NF2 and other patients.
