Dr Kathleen M Schmainda, Professor of Biophysics & Radiology at the Medical College of Wisconsin is world-reknown for her work in advanced MRI, and in particular dynamic susceptibility contrast MRI (DSC-MRI) perfusion imaging methods with a focus on brain cancer. Her work was instrumental in showing the feasibility and utility of DSC-MRI for diagnostic guidance and treatement surveillance in both primary and metastatic brain tumors. This work led to the 2020 national consensus publication regarding DSC-MRI acquisition methods, on which she serves as the senior author. She has played a key role in several multi-center clinical trials using DSC-MRI and continues to push the envelope with the development of multi-parametric imaging methods, acknowledging 20+ years of continuous NIH funding for this work.
