Dr. Takamitsu Fujimaki is Professor and Chair, Department of Neurosurgery, Saitama Medical University Hospital, Japan and has a joint appointment in Department of Neuro-oncology, International Medical Center, Saitama Medical University. He graduated from Faculty of Medicine, The University of Tokyo 1981 and started his carrier in the Department of Neurosurgery, The University of Tokyo Hospital under the supervision of Professor Kintomo Takakura. He received his PhD (Doctor of Medical Science) from the University of Tokyo in 1990 by the research on radiation treatment of glioblastoma which was supervised by Professor Masao Matsutani. During his neurosurgical training, he spent more than 3 years together with Professor Takanori Fukushima, in Mitsui Memorial Hospital where he received the certificate for “Fukushima Key Hole Microsurgery”. His research activity also covered basic mechanisms of brain metastasis with Professor Isaiah J. Fidler in the Department of Cell biology at the University of Texas, MD Anderson Cancer Center. He served for teaching positions in the University of Tokyo, Teikyo University and has been in current position since 2008. He also works as the Director, International Education and Training Center of Saitama Medical University. He is serving as an active member for executive boards in various societies including the Japan Society for Microvascular Decompression Surgery or Japanese Society for Neuro-oncology (President in 2014). He is a secretary general for the office of the Japan Society for MVD Surgery since 2018. As for social activities, he is an executive board member of the Japan Brain Foundation and a board member for the Relief System for Sufferers from Adverse Drug Reactions, Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare. He was awarded the Galenus Prize form Japan Neurosurgical Society in 1994, The Takeda Techno-Entrepreneurship Award from Takeda Foundation in 2002, Sammy’s award 1st. Place in 2004 from Japan Neurosurgery English Forum.
