MD Anderson Cancer Center
Houston, Texas, United States
My name is Ben Whitfield, I’m an MD/PhD student at UT Houston and MD Anderson, and I’m currently conducting research in the lab of Jason Huse. I am originally from Raleigh, North Carolina, and after completing my Bachelors in biology at Davidson College, I moved to Houston to begin my dual degree. I was drawn to Houston for the incredible breadth of clinical experiences offered by the Texas Medical Center, as well as the unparalleled access to clinical and translational research available at MD Anderson. After completing my 3rd year of medical school, I began my PhD in the lab of Jason Huse, examining the impact of ATRX deficiency on immune surveillance in glioma. After completing my PhD I will return to medical school and pursue a clinical residency in Neurology and a fellowship in Neuro-Oncology. My eventual goal is to be a practicing physician at an academic institute and to be involved in clinical trials, turning advances in basic science into substantive improvements in clinical care.
