Niels Verburg, MD PhD/ Neurosurgeon / Department of Neurosurgery, Amsterdam UMC, Amsterdam, The Netherlands
My neurosurgical training took place at the Amsterdam University Medical Center (The Netherlands) under the guidance of prof.dr. W.P. Vandertop and prof.dr. S.M. Peerdeman. During my training I was awarded with a Dutch Cancer Society Grant that allowed me to combine the residency with a PhD under the supervision of prof.dr. P.C. de Witt Hamer. As part of my PhD, I was a visiting scientist at the Verhaak lab at the Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine, Farmington (CT). After finishing both my neurosurgical training and defending my PhD titled "Advanced Imaging in Glioma Treatment: Moving the Frontier" in 2020, I received a Niels Stensen Fellowship that I spent at the Brain Tumour Imaging Laboratory of the Univeristy of Cambridge, UK under guidance of prof.dr. S. Price. During this period, I also worked a clinical fellow in neurosurgical oncology at the Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge, UK. Since 2021, I work as a oncological neurosurgeon at the Amsterdam UMC where I focus on both image and fluorescence-guided surgery, awake surgery and supramarginal resections. My research collaborations involve the University of Sydney, Australia, Univeristy of Cambridge, UK and the the Translational Genomics Research Institute, Phoenix, (AZ).
