Gilbert Herrera is a senior undergraduate researcher in the Department of Neurosurgery at UCLA and prospective immunology PhD applicant. His work in the Robert Prins Lab investigates the immune response to glioblastoma and how it is altered by immunotherapies such as checkpoint blockade and active vaccination. Through his analyses of single-cell immune sequencing datasets generated from both patients and murine models, he aims to elucidate the mechanisms of tumor-associated T cell exhaustion and protumor macrophage polarization to identify exploitable therapeutic targets.
