Dr. Dionysios (Dennis) Watson is an Instructor at the University of Miami's Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. He is a physician-scientist dedicated to developing new ways of treating solid tumors. After completing medical school in Greece, he went on to complete PhD training in immunotherapy development at the National Cancer Institute. His work there spanned the translational spectrum, and included developing exosomes for cytokine delivery, conducting translational studies in non-human primates, and leading the correlative studies for the Phase I clinical trial of heterodimeric interleukin-15. He subsequently moved to Case Western Reserve University for his residency and Medical Oncology fellowship, where he focused on brain tumor research in the lab and clinical care of thoracic oncology patients in the clinic.
Dr. Watson's ongoing research seeks to identify fundamental therapeutic vulnerabilities in the tumor microenvironment, in particular as they relate to metabolic and immune interactions. By bringing together his training in two diverse tumor types, and harnessing multi-disciplinary collaborations, he aims to develop approaches that can target these vulnerabilities across cancer histologies.
