I completed my Master's work in the laboratory of Dr. John Kopchick at Ohio University, where I studied the effect of growth hormone on white adipose tissue beiging, a process by which normally energy-storing white fat adopts a brown-like phenotype to expend energy though increased expression of uncoupling protein 1 (UCP1). My current predoctoral research focus is investigating the mechanism by which iron handling in the brain influences the tumor microenvironment in glioblastoma (GBM). This work has a strong translational component in that it provides insight into how iron overload disorders, caused by mutations in the HFE gene, may contribute to GBM maintenance and progression.
