Elisa Fazzari is a 2nd year PhD student in the UCLA-Caltech Medical Scientist Training Program. In the lab of Aparna Bhaduri, Elisa employs single-cell transcriptomics to investigate mechanisms of cell fate specification in glioblastoma using a cortical organoid transplant model. An aspiring neurosurgeon-scientist, she earned her B.S. in Neuroscience and minor in Biomedical Research from UCLA in 2018. During her time as an undergraduate, Elisa’s research in the lab of Dr. Albert Lai focused on the role of DNA methylation on maintenance and progression of isocitrate dehydrogenase mutant glioma. After undergraduate training, Elisa worked in the lab of Dr. Davide Ruggero at UCSF, studying the role of RNA motifs in translational specificitiy downstream of oncogenic signaling pathways. As a graduate student in the BhadurI Lab, Elisa aims to combine her interests in neuroscience and cancer by using single-cell RNA sequencing approaches to understand mechanisms of cell fate specification in glioblastoma.
