Dr. Larrey Kasereka Kamabu, MD, Lecturer (Université Catholique du Graben, Butembo, DRC), Mmed Neurosurgery, PhD Candidate, Makerere University, College of Health Sciences, Kampala, Uganda.
I am a lecturer in the department of Neurosurgery & Surgery, Catholic University of Graben, College of Medicine, Butembo in Democratic Republic of the Congo. I am involved in teaching, research, and clinical care of patients within the field of neurosurgery. I completed brilliantly my undergraduate and graduate in biomedical studies, medical school, and medical internship at the Catholic university of Graben, DRC in 2015 and 2023 as the top best cumulative grade pointe.
I am at the beginning of my research career and working at the intersection of diversity, global engagement, neurology, neurosurgery and Neurooncology. My ultimate goal is to become an independent global health researcher as my passion lies in addressing inequities in global neurosurgery and neurooncology care. The expertise needed to carry out the proposed program and the research component began to develop during my initial years of medical school where I was recognized internationally as peer reviewer of WORLD NEUROSURGERY JOURNAL, Plos1, Dove Medical Press series, Clinical Epidemiology and International Journal of Medicine.
My research skills, and on-the-ground experience expanded during my Master of Medicine in Neurosurgery at Makerere University. I have performed more than 700 majors TBI surgery, more than 350 cases of pediatric neurosurgery (shunting of hydrocephalus, endoscopic third ventriculostomy with or without choroid plexus cauterization, Myelomeningocele repair), and more than 450 other complex procedures (spine surgery, brain tumors) with mostly excellent outcomes, and acquired a good understanding of the management of primary intracranial tumors.
My fieldwork projects led to multiple publications 28 articles in the peer reviews articles as well as helped me gain experience in nationwide epidemiological research, qualitative research methodologies, management of large databases, and advanced statistics.
