SUNY Downstate College of Medicine
New York City, United States
I am a third-year medical student currently pursuing a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) at SUNY Downstate College of Medicine in Brooklyn, NY, with a specialization in the Clinical Neurosciences Pathway, set to complete in 2025. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Classical Studies and Music from Boston College, MA, where I was also part of the Honors Program. This was followed by a Master of Arts from New York University, where I wrote a thesis on echoes of Heideggerian phenomenology in the work of Flannery O’Connor entitled "Hallucinations, Brains-in-Vats, Collapsing Lungs, and Baseball Bats (Also, Flannery O’Connor)," under the guidance of Professor Thomas de Zengotita. I then earned a Postbaccalaureate Premedical Certificate from Columbia University, NY, in 2019 in order to apply to medical school.
Professionally, I’ve worked extensively in the field of neuropathology as a Research Technician and then a Staff Associate Research Scientist at the New York Brain Bank, Columbia University Irving Medical Center. As an M3 at SUNY Downstate College of Medicine since 2021, I’ve been able to participate in research project involving the fields of neuropathology, neurology, neurosurgery, and neuro-oncology, collaborating with many top doctors on various projects at renowned institutions such as Lenox Hill Hospital, Weill Cornell Medical Center, and Columbia University Irving Medical Center. I have a particular interest in neuro-oncology, especially the management and treatment of tumors of the CNS as well as the interaction of malignant tissue with healthy tissue in the brain, but my research work ranges from understanding the pathology of Alzheimer's disease and Huntington disease to outcomes of cervical spine surgery to understanding the effects of radiation on cognition.
I’m also an active volunteer at the Anne Kastor Brooklyn Free Clinic, a Teaching Assistant in neuroanatomy, and I enjoy music, philosophy, and literature in my spare time.
