Lisa Nieland is a graduate student at Leiden Univiersity Medical Center from the Netherlands currently performing her PhD in the Breakefield laboratory in Massachusetts General Hospital. Her academic studies started with the Bachelors’ Psychobiology at the University of Amsterdam (completed in 2017), followed by a Master Neuroscience and Cognition at the University of Utrecht (completed in 2019). During her Master Lisa performed an internship at the laboratory of prof. dr. Xandra O. Breakefield at Massachusetts General Hospital located in Boston. The labs friendly and intellectual environment, the experience of living in the United States together with the high collaborative attitude opening a lot of academic learning opportunities, were factors important for Lisa her decision to continue her PhD trajectory in the laboratory of prof. dr. Xandra O. Breakefield. The focus of her research is on Glioblastoma and its tumor microenvironment together with Extracellular communication and their role in tumor progression. In detail, she studied the interaction between tumor cells and astrocytes and tried different therapeutical strategies to target glioblastoma.
