Takuma Nakashima is a project researcher at Division of Brain Tumor Translational Research, National Cancer Center Japan (Tokyo, Japan) under the supervision of Hiromichi Suzuki, principal investigator, and also belongs to Department of Neurosurgery, Nagoya University (Aichi, Japan).
After graduating from Kumamoto University in 2014, I started two years of a residency program at Japanese Red Cross Nagoya Daini Hospital (Aichi, Japan) as a medical doctor, and worked hard for basic clinical training. I experienced externship training at the University of Florida Department of Neurosurgery in the final month of the residency.
My primary research interests are the field of multi-omics analysis of refractory brain tumors, such as glioblastomas, lower-grade gliomas, and medulloblastomas. I got a chance to do my research as a graduate student at National Cancer Center Japan under the supervision of Hiromichi Suzuki, and now is engaged in some projects. The largest one is a project analyzing whole-genome sequencing data of refractory and rare brain tumors funded by the Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development. I extracted DNA and RNA from 470 cases of brain tumors collected from all over Japan, and now is proceeding with whole-genome sequencing of these samples. I will consecutively perform RNA sequencing of these samples, and then, perform integrative analysis of these sequencing data by using bioinformatics skills to reveal the mechanisms of unrevealed pathogenesis of the tumors and to develop new targets for effective treatments. I am developing my skills in bioinformatics through this project.
