My name is Inês Neves and I am a PhD candidate at Uppsala University in the subject of Neuro-Oncology under the mentorship of Professor Lene Uhrbom. I received my BSc in Biology from the University of Porto in 2016 and my MSc in Medical Science from Uppsala University in 2018.
In the Uhrbom lab, we work with patient-derived glioma models and validated mouse models to uncover biology and regulation with the goal of identifying vulnerabilities to which new therapies can be directed. My main focus, particularly, is on the remaining, poorly studied, relapse-causing GBM cells residing in the peritumoral margin. In order to tackle this, we have collected a large cohort of tissue samples from different regions of the tumor. These samples are further processed, analyzed, and explanted. With this, we hope to identify new biomarkers for relapse and provide reliable models to be used by the scientific community. The overarching goal is to develop new therapies for glioblastoma.
