Dr. Alexander Carpentier MD PhD is a neurosurgeon, researcher, and university professor at the Hospital Pitié-Salpêtrière and Sorbonne University in Paris, France. For the past two decades he has been working to develop novel therapeutic strategies for the treatment of epilepsy, brain tumors, neurodegenerative diseases, and other conditions with significant unmet needs. He pioneered the use of laser interstitial thermal therapy (LITT) under MR guidance and developed the SonoCloud, an implantable ultrasound device that is currently in clinical trials for the treatment of brain metastases, glioblastoma, and Alzheimer’s disease. He is the chairman of the scientific board and founder of CarThera, a French startup company formed in 2010 to advance novel ultrasound therapies such as the SonoCloud for the treatment of brain diseases.
