I am a Medical Oncologist and Neurooncologist at Duke's Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center, Deputy Director of the Center for Cancer Immunotherapy, tasked to speed up clinical research and translation for scientists who have made discoveries that show promise for developing new immunotherapies. My role involves leading several clinical and translational programs with significant laboratory and interdisciplinary collaborations. We pursue novel approaches and methods to improve our understanding of the mechanisms of resistance to therapy and untangling the complexity of cancer. I lead a translational laboratory team focussing on preclinical systems to develop novel immunotherapies preclinically that can be taken further to early-phase clinical trials that either take a window of opportunity approach or involve serial evaluation of biospecimens to help us overcome the barriers to progress including resistance to therapy, tumor heterogeneity, and immunosuppression.
