Andrew B. Lassman, MD, is the John Harris Professor and Neuro-Oncology Division Chief in the Neurology Department, Associate Director for Clinical Trials at the NCI-designed Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center, Scientific Director of the Network Capacity Resource for the Irving Institute for Clinical & Translational Research, and Associate Dean of Clinical Research Compliance, all at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians & Surgeons.
Dr. Lassman earned BS and MS degrees in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry through a combined four-year program at Yale, received his MD from Columbia, completed Neurology residency at New York Presbyterian (NYP) Hospital-Columbia, and trained in Neuro-Oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC). As MSKCC faculty, he was Director of the Neuro-Oncology Fellowship, attaining national accreditation for the program and mentoring over 20 trainees who now hold prominent academic positions internationally. In 2011, Dr. Lassman returned to Columbia and NYP to lead the Neuro-Oncology Division which has achieved international award-winning recognition for patient care, research, and education.
Focused on brain cancers, Dr. Lassman designed and led early to late phase translational clinical trials, retrospective analyses, and other international studies, including those selected for funding by the National Cancer Institute’s National Clinical Trials Network. In all these efforts, Dr. Lassman incorporates molecular correlative analyses to refine treatment paradigms.
Dr. Lassman received the Adult Clinical Research Abstract Award from the Society for Neuro-Oncology, Best Oral Presentation Award for Clinical Research from the European Association of Neuro-Oncology, Nobility in Science Award from Oligo Nation, Preuss Award in Neuro-Oncology from the American Academy of Neurology where he is recognized as Fellow (FAAN), Boyer Clinical Research Award from MSKCC, Neurology Resident Teaching Award from MSKCC/Weill Cornell Medical Center, and Clinician of the Year Award from the Columbia Neurology Department. His peers select him annually as a “Top Doctor” for Neurology/Oncology.
