Zev Binder, MD, PhD, is a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Pennsylvania. He also serves as the Scientific Director of the Human Brain Tumor Tissue Bank in his department. He completed his MD at Penn State University, followed by a post-MD post-doc in the Department of Neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins University, focusing on markers of brain tumor stem cells. He then obtained his PhD from the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at Hopkins, exploring real-time imaging paired with ex vivo organotypics to model tumor invasion. After obtaining his PhD, Dr. Binder worked as an R&D Scientist at Champions Oncology, a patient-derived xenograft focused contract research organization, investigating methods for improving tumor take rate and growth rates. In 2015 he was brought on as a translational scientist at the University of Pennsylvania, in the lab of Dr. Donald O’Rourke in the Department of Neurosurgery. Dr. Binder helps run the Abramson Cancer Center’s GBM Translational Center of Excellence, directing close integration between the bench and bedside brain tumor research.
