Manmeet Ahluwalia, MD, MBA, FASCO, is the Chief Scientific Officer, the Chief of Medical Oncology, Fernandez Family Foundation Endowed Chair in Cancer Research, and the Deputy Director of Miami Cancer Institute (MCI) at Baptist Health South Florida. MCI is the 3rd member and currently Florida’s only member of Memorial Sloan Kettering’s Cancer Alliance.
Dr. Ahluwalia completed internal medicine training in Cleveland Clinic Health System and fellowship training at Roswell Park Cancer Institute. Prior to MCI, he was a full Professor at Cleveland Clinic. He has led practice-changing research for developing new therapies for patients with primary brain tumors and brain metastases, resulting in 250+ peer-reviewed research publications. He designed and led initial studies on combining immunotherapy/targeted therapy with radiosurgery for brain metastases. He co-led first-in-man trial of Laser Interstitial Thermal Therapy (LITT) for primary brain tumors, which led to USFDA approval. He also designed and led LASSR trial exploring LITT for brain metastases and radiation necrosis. He first authored the landmark paper describing the clinical trial of SurVaxM plus TMZ for glioblastoma in Journal of Clinical Oncology.
Dr Ahluwalia serves as PI on $3.9 million NIH R01-funded grant on phenotypic classifier development for distinguishing radiation effects from recurrence for glioblastoma. He is also ‘clinical trial leader’ on $10.4 million PO1 grant focusing on GBM gender-specific differences (Cosine Consortium). He is PI on ongoing paradigm-changing FDA-approval-intent studies on blood-brain barrier disruption (LIMITLESS, LIBERATE) through Focused Ultrasound for brain malignancies. He currently serves as chair of the SWOG Brain Tumor Working Group and the DEI co-chair of SWOG. He also serves as member of NBTS Roundtable Committee and as founder PI of the coordinating site for International Radiosurgery Research Foundation. He has received Fellowship of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (FASCO), NCI/CTEP Career Development Award, ASCO Leadership Development Program, amongst others.
