Professor David Ziegler MBBS, BSc, FRACP, MD (Res) is a paediatric neuro-oncologist at the Kids Cancer Centre at Sydney Children’s Hospital. He is an NHMRC Investigator with expertise in neuro-oncology and early phase clinical trials. Prof Ziegler completed his clinical training in paediatric haematology / oncology at Sydney Children’s Hospital and then as a Fulbright Scholar at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Harvard Medical School and Children’s Hospital Boston. His research focused on the preclinical development and clinical translation of novel therapies for paediatric brain tumours.
Prof Ziegler has established a translational research program to develop novel therapies for children with cancer at Sydney Children's Hospital, and heads the centre’s clinical trials unit and brain tumour program. He has led multiple national and international clinical trials. He is a Conjoint Professor at the University of New South Wales and a Group Leader at the Children’s Cancer Institute, where his preclinical research focuses on novel therapies for childhood brain tumours. He leads the national precision medicine trial through the Zero Childhood Cancer Program for that offers in depth tumour profiling to all children with cancer in Australia. He is director of the NSW Kids Cancer Alliance. In 2023 he received the prestigious Jian Zhou medal, awarded to a rising star of Australian health and medical science by the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences.
