I'm Shahrzad Bahrampour, postdoctoral fellow at the Sick Children's Hospital of Toronto. My research journey has been a thrilling exploration of genetics, signaling pathways, their profound influence on central nervous system (CNS) development, and their intricate role in brain cancer initiation and progression.
My academic voyage began during my PhD and early postdoctoral training at Linkoping University in Sweden. In those years, I was deeply engrossed in unraveling the genetic networks that dictate neural cell specification and proliferation within the CNS. My work, published in six peer-reviewed journals, unearthed the essential genetic networks crucial for normal neuronal lineage progression. These findings established me as a budding expert in molecular genetics and neurodevelopment.
My dedication and contributions didn't go unnoticed, as I was honored with the prestigious international postdoctoral award from the Swedish Research Council, Vetenskapsrådet (VR). This recognition fueled my determination to expand my horizons further and deepen my expertise. I subsequently joined the laboratory of Dr. Xi Huang at SickKids, Toronto. I embarked on a transformative multidisciplinary approach that seamlessly integrated mouse genetics, xenograft modeling of human brain tumors, cell biology, advanced imaging, electrophysiology, bioinformatics, and bioengineering.
Despite my relatively short time in Dr. Huang's lab, I've made significant strides in my research endeavors. My relentless pursuit of understanding the intricate connections between genetics, signaling pathways, and brain tumorigenesis drives me forward. I am committed to unearthing novel insights that may one day pave the way for revolutionary advancements in our understanding and treatment of devastating neurological disorders.
