My name is Ahsan Farooqi MD PhD, and I am currently a resident physician in radiation oncology at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in my 4th year of training. I grew up in Killeen, TX and went to Texas A&M University where I completed a bachelors in science degree in 2008, majoring in Biomedical Science. I then went on to complete the dual degree MD PhD program at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, completing my dissertation under the guidance of Charles Reynolds, Director of our Cancer Center. My research at that time dealt with understanding how the alternative lengthening of telomeres phenotype contributes to drug and radiation resistance in patient derived neurobalstoma cell lines. As part of my clinical training, I am doing a post-doctoral fellowship in the labs of Dr. Erik Sulman and Dr. Jason Huse, who are serving as my co-mentors. I am continuing to research ALT, except this time in the context of glioblastoma. Specifically, we are aiming to identify compounds that may be synthetically lethal in GBM that are ALT+, and to test them in combination with ionizing radiation.
