Prof. Ashish Suri has had distinguished career spanning three decades at Neurosurgery AIIMS, New Delhi, India. He has performed 8,000 neurosurgeries, and has developed ground-breaking surgical innovations for skull-base, neuro-endoscopy, neuro-oncology, cerebrovascular neurosurgery. He has been elected as Executive Member of “World Academy of Neurological Surgeons” - WANS as only Indian Active Member.
Dr. Suri has spearheaded development of comprehensive neurosurgery simulation curriculum, which encompasses low- and high-fidelity cadaveric, animal, synthetic, computer-based simulations incorporating formative and summative assessment. “Neurosurgery Skills Training Facility - NSTF” has provided hands-on training to 2750 neurosurgeons from India and abroad. “. Neurosurgery Education and Training School NETS” established virtual 3D training for the first time in Asia.
Prof. Suri has held position of Adjunct Professor, IIT-Delhi for one decade. He has successfully established “Neuro-Engineering Facility” supported by two “Center-of-Excellence” projects. “DBT CoE Neurosurgery Simulators" focuses on AI-based skills evaluation and VR-virtual reality, and “ICMR CoE Neurosurgery Medical Devices” on intra-operative neurophysiological monitoring, computer aided neurosurgery, robotic multi-functional instrumentation.
Dr. Suri's prolific research output includes 380 publications, 220 e-books/e-videos, 6 patents, 16 technologies, h-Index=42, i10-Index=162. The invention, “Neuro-Endoscope-Box-Trainer”, was selected at 2015 Exhibition on "Innovations in Medical Science and Biotechnology" at Rashtrapati Bhawan and granted US patent in January 2021. He has received 53 awards for self and students, including “2002 North American Spine Society - The Spine Journal Outstanding Paper Award”, “2019 North American Skull Base Society Best International Paper Award”, “NAMS Golden Jubilee Commemoration Award Oration”, “DBT National Bioscience Award”, “DBT Tata Innovation Fellowship Award”, “NASI Platinum Jubilee Award Oration”, “Sun Pharma Research] Award”. He has been elected as Fellow of National Academy of Medical Sciences (FAMS) and National Academy of Sciences, India (FNASc).
